Developmentally Appropriate Preschool

Oct 7, 2014

It’s hard to find a truly developmentally appropriate preschool these days.  It seems that the idea of a “rigorous curriculum” gets pushed down to our younger students and we easily lose focus of what the true purpose of education is.While doing a fine and gross motor development workshop featuring “Motor Skills for Academic Success: Motor Moms and Dads Program” and “Finger Funatics Fine Motor Development Program,” I stumbled upon one of the most AMAZING preschool programs in Denton, Texas.  It is called Gonzalez School for Young Children. It has a school setting scaled down to a comfortable size for children, with every wing designed to form a neighborhood reflective of Denton. It is evident that these teachers understand good early childhood pedagogy!

  • Middle right: school kitchen where students bake goodies and have real life experiences.
  • Bottom left: School Fire Station, where fires are put out with the School Counselor!
