Dots, not Digits

Subitize • verb

instantly recognize a number quantity without one-to-one counting

Deck o’ Dots is a deck of cards that is specifically designed without digits to help children (PreK-3rd grade) subitize in order to develop higher order thinking skills in mathematics.

Each card features an arrangement of dots to help students develop conservation, the recognition that quantity does not change with physical rearrangement.

Easily Differentiate the Development of Numeracy

Deck o’ Dots is comprised of three decks that build upon each other in a logical, developmentally appropriate way to allow for differentiation and meeting the needs of all learners.

Differentiation is simple and subtle, as decks are marked only by different colors. As kids develop confidence in conservation, they can progress through the levels of cards at their own pace or as directed by a teacher.

A Fun Way To Practice Numeracy

We have 8 different games designed to be played with the Deck o’ Dots cards.

Each game helps students develop the confidence, vocabulary and strategies to be able to communicate the reasoning behind their answers.

Each game has two levels, and each level can be played with any of the four differentiated Deck o’ Dots decks, meaning there are at least eight different ways to play!

8 variations x 8 games = over 64 different ways to play!

Deck o' Dots games meet all five criteria!

Each game includes the following components:

    • Title Cards. These colorful pages help your students develop independence by showing them exactly what they need to play the game with both words and pictures.
    • Detailed Instructions. Written for the teacher, but with the student players in mind, the instructions include the focus of the game, a materials list, step-by-step instructions, example situations to illustrate game play, explanation of the accountability sheet, and explanation of challenge (or differentiation) options.
    • Game Boards (both regular and challenge)
    • Accountability Sheets (both regular and challenge)
